The opportunities were there, the Shaler Area Boys Basketball Team just couldn’t get over the hump at Edinboro University of PA. The Titans after leading most of the first quarter, allowed a lay up by Meadville that put the Bulldogs ahead 11-10 at the end of one. The rest of the games was Meadville stretching out leads, only to have the resilient Titans keep clawing their way back into the game. After surrendering the next nine points after the end of the 1st quarter and being down 10, the Titans rallied and were able to end the half only down 3, 23-20. Similar instances occurred in the third and fourth quarters with the Bulldogs attaining a ten point lead only to see the Titan squad pull it back to a single score game. The final run at one point had the score at 45-43 Meadville, but Shaler Area was never able to get past that Meadville lead. The Titans actually had a couple attempts down by three 47-44, at three point opportunities in the final seconds but were unable to convert them. The team was lead by Matt Bendel with 13 points, Mekhi Reynolds and BB Fugh both with 10 points. It was a great season for the Titan Basketball Team bringing the proud tradition back into prominence in the WPIAL and now back into the PIAA state tournament.
